Carmen Cooper embodies dedication in all areas of her life. As a U.S. Army veteran pursuing her BSN with an expected graduation in April 2026, Carmen has found at Herzing University the perfect environment to advance her healthcare career while maintaining her other responsibilities.

Why Herzing Was the Right Choice

"I chose Herzing University because of its strong reputation for flexibility and the culture surrounding the nursing program," Carmen explains. The university's hybrid learning model has been crucial for her success. "As an adult not having to go into a classroom 3-5 days a week. It lets you be able to provide for your family and still keep your dreams alive."

Military Foundation, Healthcare Future

Carmen's military service in the Army gave her valuable skills that continue to serve her well in her academic journey. "It gave me a foundation in discipline and organizational skills. It also gave me the skill of understanding that there is a solution to every problem," she reflects.

These attributes translate perfectly to her chosen field of nursing, where problem-solving and discipline are essential qualities.

The Art of Balance

When asked how she manages the demands of school while maintaining her other responsibilities, Carmen reveals her secret: "A calendar. I have mastered giving each and every part of my life their own time."

This methodical approach to time management has allowed her to excel in her studies while still fulfilling her personal and professional obligations.

Building Connections in the Herzing Community

Though relatively new to Herzing, Carmen has already formed meaningful relationships.

"During my short time at Herzing, I have met some wonderful people in my cohort and instructors," she shares, specifically mentioning Ariel, Diamond and Renee as mentors who have been instrumental to her experience.

Looking Toward the Future

Carmen's aspirations extend beyond graduation. "I plan to do my time in the ER and then go on to be a flight nurse," she states with clarity. Her career goals align perfectly with her childhood ambition: "I have always wanted to make a change in someone's life every day."

Words of Wisdom for Fellow Students

For incoming Herzing students, Carmen offers powerful advice: "Keep your WHY at the front of your brain at all times." This simple yet profound guidance reflects her understanding that purpose drives persistence – a lesson she likely learned during her military service and continues to apply to her education.
