An Unexpected Beginning

When Shelley Kranz first walked into Herzing University's New Orleans campus, she was a 9th-grade dropout with a GED seeking a job as an administrative assistant. Little did she know that this moment would mark the beginning of an extraordinary 20-year career that would transform her life and the lives of countless students.

Shelley's story is a testament to the transformative power of education and unwavering determination. After being hired as an administrative assistant, she not only became an integral part of the Herzing University team but also pursued her own educational journey. She went on to earn an Associate of Science in Business Administration in 2010, a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management in 2011, and a Master of Business Administration in 2015.

Rising Above Disaster: A Beacon of Hope

Her most profound moment of pride came in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. When everyone expected only 25 to 50 students might return, Shelley was instrumental in helping 100 students continue their education.

"Many had lost everything," she recalls, "but we provided resources, gave them hope, and reminded them they weren't alone."

More Than an Employee: A Student Champion

Now serving as the Southern Regional Student Services Team Lead, Shelley embodies Herzing's commitment to student success. Her approach goes beyond administrative duties; she sees herself as a cheerleader for students, often stepping in when they feel they have no support.

"We are more than educators," she explains. "We are cheerleaders for our students, often stepping into that role when they feel they have no one else."

A Journey of Leadership and Learning

Her dedication hasn't gone unnoticed. Shelley was selected to participate in the Herzing University Leadership Development Program, an experience that deepened her skills and strengthened her connection to the organization. She was also pivotal in establishing the first Phi Beta Lambda Chapter at the New Orleans campus, serving as its inaugural president.

Moments of Inspiration

One of her most memorable experiences was watching a student graduate after enduring unimaginable loss—including the deaths of her mother and sister, and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

"I cried like a baby that day," Shelley admits, "overwhelmed by her resilience and determination."

A Message of Empowerment

To current and future students, Shelley's message is simple yet powerful:

"There's nothing you can't achieve if you believe in yourself, seek support when you need it, and never give up. It's not about how quickly you finish—it's about crossing the finish line. Just graduate!"

As Herzing University celebrates its Diamond Celebration, Shelley Kranz stands as a shining example of the university's mission: transforming lives, one student at a time.
