Zack Tippett's BSN Journey - Herzing UniversityA Calling to Help Others

For Zack Tippett, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student set to graduate in 2025, the desire to help and heal others has been a lifelong passion. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a physician, driven by an innate desire to make a difference in healthcare. While his career path led him to become a paramedic instead of a doctor, his 17 years in emergency services have allowed him to fulfill that childhood ambition of providing critical care when it matters most.

Today, as both a paramedic and EMS shift supervisor pursuing his BSN degree, Zack represents the determination that defines many Herzing University students as the institution celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Why Herzing? Flexibility Meets Excellence in Nursing Education

When it came time to advance his education through a BSN program, Zack's choice of Herzing University was strategic and purposeful.

"Choosing Herzing University was a pivotal decision shaped by my career as a paramedic and EMS shift supervisor and my commitments as a husband and father," Zack explains. "With over 17 years in emergency services, my desire to further my education must be balanced with my professional and personal responsibilities."

The BSN major, specifically the online Paramedic to BSN bridge program, particularly appealed to Zack. "The online bridge program from Paramedic to BSN was highly enticing, offering an opportunity to further my education, continue working and remain present with my family," he shares. This pathway allows him to work toward his 2025 graduation without sacrificing his professional obligations or family time.

Building Lasting Connections Through Online BSN Education

Despite being an online BSN student, Zack has found unexpected richness in the personal connections formed during his educational journey toward his 2025 graduation.

"The Intensive sessions have been a highlight of my experience as an online student, surpassing all expectations," he shares. "These moments have enriched my educational journey and fostered lifelong friendships with peers who have become like family."

Zack specifically acknowledges the impact of mentors Morgan Turner and Patrick Montiel, whose encouragement has been instrumental to his success in the BSN program. "Their support has not only propelled me forward but has also inspired me to reach my fullest potential," he reflects. "The professors at HU genuinely have a sense of servitude toward their students and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them."

Mastering the Balancing Act: BSN Studies and Life

For working professionals pursuing a BSN degree, balance is essential. Zack maintains a structured yet flexible approach to managing his various responsibilities as he works toward his 2025 graduation date.

"I balance my studies at Herzing with life outside of school by maintaining a structured schedule and prioritizing flexibility," he explains. "I leverage Herzing's online course offerings to fit my studies around my work and family commitments, ensuring that I allocate specific time for schoolwork while preserving quality time for personal responsibilities."

Looking Beyond 2025: From BSN to DNP

Set to graduate with his BSN in 2025, Zack's educational journey won't end there. He plans to build on his nursing foundation by pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, potentially with a dual specialization to expand his expertise and professional capabilities.

"I intend to advance my educational pursuits by pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree," Zack shares. "Although I have not finalized my specialization, I am considering a dual major in related fields to broaden my expertise and professional scope."

The Herzing Difference for BSN Students

When asked what sets Herzing apart from other institutions offering BSN programs, Zack points to the university's core values.

"Herzing University distinguishes itself through its commitment to the P.R.I.C.E. of Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Caring and Engagement," he notes. "These core values guide students toward becoming leaders in their communities and emphasize the importance of character in everyday actions."

This focus on leadership at all levels resonates deeply with Zack, who believes that true leadership begins with daily interactions and personal conduct rather than position or authority—values he carries into his nursing education.

Advice for Future BSN Students

Drawing from his own experience in the BSN program, Zack offers valuable guidance for incoming Herzing students:

"Engage actively with all the university's resources. Utilize flexible scheduling to your advantage, especially if you're balancing work and family commitments. Connect with your professors and peers; building a supportive network is crucial. Finally, stay organized and manage your time effectively."

As Herzing University celebrates its Diamond Anniversary, students like Zack—working toward his BSN degree with a 2025 graduation goal—exemplify the institution's lasting impact in creating opportunities for dedicated professionals to advance their education while maintaining their commitments to career and family.
